Need a gift idea? This is perfect for friends and family and you can customize it in so many ways.
I don’t work a job, so I don’t buy gifts for others- I make them! For my cousin’s birthday this year, I made cake pops. Her favorite flavor is red velvet so I chose that flavor! Here’s how to make this sweet bouquet:
Cake pops
Ingredients:
Box Cake mix or recipe
Lollipop sticks or paper straws
Coating chocolate (you can get these brick like ones for cheap)
Sprinkles or other topping
+ stand mixer recommended
For Icing:
meringue powder
Water
Powder sugar
Piping bags:
sandwich plastic baggie
Scissors
🌼 display:
vase, jar or other container
Gift tissue
Paper (for petals)
CAKE POPS
Make the cake by following the recipe or box
BE CAREFUL: while the cake is still warm, gently take it out of the pan and crumble it into a bowl for your mixer.
Begin to beat the warm cake, adding a little bit of water so that it clumps together.
Once it reaches a consistency that you are able to shape and it holds together, begin to start shaping.
With about 1 tbsp per ball, form your cake pops, align them on parchment paper, pan or plate (should fit into your freezer).
1 box (no frosting like in this post) makes about 25 full size cake pops.
Place your pops into the freezer for about 1-2 hours.
TIME TO COAT
Create a double broiler over your stove by boiling water in a pot and placing a bowl above it.
After it heats up, place the coating chocolate into the bowl to melt (I used about 9 cubes).
ONE BALL AT A TIME! Take a stick and dip it about 1/2” into the melted chocolate.
Stick it into the ball and dip the ball into the chocolate.
TO GET A SMOOTH COAT: lightly twist the cake pop in the coating.
This is the time to sprinkle on any toppings.
Place the finished pops into mugs to cool!
TIME FOR ICING: to make 3/4 cup icing
Mix 2 1/4 tsp meringue powder with 8 tsp water until the powder dissolves.
Mix in 1 cup powder sugar.
Your icing is complete! You can add food coloring for fun colors!
MAKE YOUR OWN PIPING BAG
Place the icing into sandwich bag, preferably freezer proof.
Close it, removing air bubbles.
Cut one of the corners to create a small opening!
Decorate your cake pops!
FLOWER ARRANGEMENT
Find a mason jar or vase.
Select 12-15 of your favorite cake pops, the rest are for you to enjoy 😉
Using paper of your choice, fold or cut petal shapes. I made 6 (11” each).
Put in gift tissue into your jar.
Arrange petals and place in cake pops.
YOU DID IT!
